Works by Barry Truax, Hildegard Westerkamp, and Eve Beglarian

Performances by Kathryn Cernauskas, Meredith Bates, and Giorgio Magnanensi

At the heart of the experience, where nature, technology, and artistry converge, are eight custom Sitka spruce resonators—flat-panel loudspeakers handcrafted by acclaimed sound artist Giorgio Magnanensi. Created from reclaimed West Coast wood, these stunning sculptures diffuse sound in every direction, transforming the beautiful acoustics of Beaver Point Hall into a resonant sonic landscape in which the audience will be immersed.

The evening includes eight-channel works by renowned composers Hildegard Westerkamp and Barry Truax. Westerkamp’s Talking Rain guides listeners through the lush, rain-nourished coastal landscapes, while Truax’s Rainforest Raven leads a sound journey of transformation, guided by the calls of a raven and the watery textures of Galiano Island. The concert also features a rare performance of Eve Beglarian’s Preciosilla for flute and electronics, brought to life by Salt Spring’s own Kathryn Cernauskas. Improvisation takes centre-stage as well, with a live performance by Meredith Bates and Giorgio Magnanensi, exploring spontaneous creation and interaction within this unique acoustic architecture.

From composed soundscapes to live experimental dialogues, this evening invites you to hear—and feel—sound in a new, deeply embodied way.
