Sean Kiley's presentation to the 4:33 Club last year, Music and Altered States of Awareness, was so well received, we have invited him back. In this presentation, Sean will explore how and why our brains interpret only some of the myriad sounds we hear as music. He will explore the  borders between musical and non-musical perception, and how these boundaries are affected by the bodies we inhabit and the particular cultural practices in which we are engaged. His presentation will help us to deepen our engagement with both music and the sonic environment.

Composer Sean Kiley is pursuing a PhD in Music Composition and Psychology at the University of Victoria
