Victoria composer Kristy Farkas’ project 'Songs for Tree' is an ode to our planet's endangered old-growth forests, specifically the last standing old-growth trees on Vancouver Island.
Beginning in the woods near Beaver Point Hall, Kristy and her collaborators (singers Viviane Houle and Cathy Fern Lewis and clarinetist Melissa Goodchild) invite you on an ‘animated soundwalk’ to tune in to the sounds, rhythms and textures of the forest and surrounding environment while they play several works from her collection (Please bring a water bottle and wear appropriate footwear for walking on a forest path.)
Afterwards, we will gather indoors for a rich conversation with Kristy about her 'Songs for Tree’; the relationship between nature and music; and why tuning in to and connecting with the natural world is so important for our well-being.
